Fura Academy is the largest CSR initiative undertaken by any private sector in the Boyacá region. Within 12 months of its launch, Fura has launched three major initiatives to support the community members where it operates, i.e. Education, Productive Projects, and Creating Entrepreneurs
Education is the most significant gift, and the Colombian wing of FURA is involved in the single-largest CSR project in this direction with the FURA Academy. To improve the living standards of Coscuez's community, the company has trained over 2,500 students in about 36 courses since 2021, when it launched. In areas ranging from mining and agriculture to language courses. The company hopes to expand the FURA Academy to train even more students in various areas of knowledge. Figuratively enough, this is the dawn of a new era for the entire community of Coscuez locals, who will now be highly efficient for better employment opportunities. Such a noble initiative will undoubtedly give rise to learned scholars and professionals who will make a difference in their motherland in a near future
Fura will be giving new economic opportunities to the Coscuez Community. Through productive agricultural projects, these people will have the opportunity to develop new economic activities. The program provides an economical alternative and competitive advantage at a national and international level through the constitution of the first commercial, agro-industrial and co-operative mechanism called D'Coscuez. The interested should sign their commitments with Fura and begin their training process. The projects have been structured with high standards and in an ongoing dialogue with the Coscuez community. With these projects, the company targets to create business opportunities, legal incomes and decent employment.
FURA believes in Coscuez's potential for development and fundamental role in the sustained economic growth of all West Province departments in Boyacá. That's why FURA developed an ambitious project to further the community's entrepreneurship. Through two approaches, the company is building new opportunities for job retraining, strengthening the entire production process of this area for the families to have a sustainable source of income. The program supports early-stage start-ups and financing local businesses, respecting traditions and local products but taking a chance on innovation. Currently, we are implementing three productive projects: poultry, pork and a protein farm. There is a wide range of services and gastronomic offers, such as Glamping El Mirador, from where visitors can contemplate the fantastic landscape of the zone or can eat in Crujientes's tastiest signature pork rinds. They can also enjoy Artisanal Mermelades, dark chocolate from Cipa Otanche and a group of mothers called SIMA, handmade cheeses, and other products that Coscuez's entrepreneurs have for locals and their visitors.
First-time ever in the global mining sector, an all-women wash plant has been commissioned. The triumphant faces in this image entail a long-drawn history of male domination in Coscuez. Fortunately, FURA has spotted talent, grit and determination among several women to prove their mettle. The initiative has resulted in the first all-women wash plant comprising several mothers and other women from the region, providing utmost dignity and assurance for a successful future.
Where there is a will, there is a way. That is the belief of promising students from Coscuez, who, despite having luckless since they hadn't had access to quality education since childhood. Now they can access the massive scholarship scheme that the company has launched, giving access to higher education; the beneficiaries are young talents who considering their economic situation, had not dreamed of studying for a professional career. Nevertheless, FURA's keen attention toward holistic socio-economic development makes these students get scholarships in professional educational programs. Encouraging education, FURA is spearheading a monumental difference in the upbringing of countless other children in the backward fringes of Coscuez's emerald mining community.
Fura will be giving new economic opportunities for the Coscuez Community, through five agricultural productive projects this people will have the opportunity to develop new economic activities. 55 beneficiaries for productive projects in the agricultural field have signed their commitments with Fura and have started their training process. Five projects have been structured with high standards. With these projects 150 people will leave the extreme poverty.
The hunt for stunning emeralds is a path wrought with numerous risks in Coscuez. For decades, artisanal miners have literally kept their lives on the line to extract these green beauties deep under the surface of the earth. However, FURA GEMS put an end to those casualties while starting their operations in 2018. With over 1700 metres of core drilling, the company mapped over 20 kilometres of underground tunnels, thus clearing the path for calculative, scientific mining that assures safety of miners. This has been a game-changer in the history of emerald mining in Colombia, and FURA GEMS has been more than glad to come of help!
The spirit of sustainable mining can literally lead to ecological conservation. Environmental development is an all-pervading ethos rooted in the FURA code of conduct. Celebrating World Environment Day, the FURA team and their children engaged in an afforestation programme involving the vicinities of La Paz and Casaroja’s School. Saplings were planted and children were empowered with priceless wisdom about how to cohabit with mother nature and strive for success not at the expense of the greenery. FURA GEMS continues this commendable deed all across the emerald mining community of Coscuez and since 2018, has been responsible for improving the green cover of Coscuez significantly.
